SmallIMSI

Intracytoplasmic Morphologically selected Sperm Injection

During ICSI a single sperm is injected into the egg. But IMSI takes ICSI to the next level. IMSI allows us to choose the very best sperm using a high power microscope that usually magnifies image to 6000 times or more. At this magnification level, the embryologist can usually detect subtle structural alterations in sperm that a normal microscope could not detect. This helps our embryologist’s to choose a morphologically best sperm for injection.

IMSI procedure is carried out exactly like ICSI once the best sperm has been selected.

Studies suggest that IMSI offers no additional benefit over ICSI.

When is IMSI Opted?

IMSI is used for treating Male Infertility when:

  • The Male Partner is diagnosed with production of  too few sperm (Oligospermia )
  • Sperms with  abnormal morphology or abnormal Motility (Teratozoospermia & Asthenospermia)
  • The sperm may have trouble attaching to an egg
  • Due to a blockage in reproductive tract which does not allow sperm from getting out (Obstructive Azoospermia)
